AB Agri – driving value and profit in the food supply chain.
AB Agri (Associated British Agriculture) is the Agriculture Group of Associated British Foods plc. The business’ unique breadth and experience enables us to add value and drive profit for businesses all along the food, drink and bio-fuel industry supply chain.

Where did we start?

AB Agri began in 1989 as a single product business marketing 600,000 tonnes of ‘Trident Sugar Beet Feed’ - the co-product generated from the production of sugar at British Sugar’s various UK plants. The business rapidly expanded through acquisition, technological expertise, market development and operated as ABNA until the business was re-branded as AB Agri in 2007.

AB Agri is now supplying products and services to farmers, feed and food manufacturers, processors, and retailers, selling products in over 40 countries that drive efficiency in over 20 million tonnes of animal feed.

Where are we going?

Today AB Agri is the UK’s market leader in almost all of the sectors in which it operates. Through the application of our unique technology, nutritional expertise and market knowledge, AB Agri seeks further global expansion whilst deepening its activity within the international markets in which it operates.

Through acquisition, joint venture, distributor arrangements, and operating through complex routes to market we seek to expand our global footprint and to outperform competitors.

Our mission is to help global agricultural businesses develop and improve by supplying leading edge, technology based products and services.

China – opportunities for further growth

In 1996 AB Agri established its first joint venture, ABN Huinong Feed Company, in Shanghai.  This was a comprehensive animal feed enterprise including animal nutrition research, animal feed research, product development and production.  With its fast expansion, a second joint venture, ABN Liaohe Feed Company, was established in 1998.  In 2004 AB Agri increased its investment in China and turned the two joint ventures into wholly owned subsidiaries focusing on concentrates and compound animal feed.

AB Agri is amongst the top five foreign companies to invest in the Chinese animal feed industry. Investment continues with 859 people employed across six feed mills, with two additional mills under construction. We have a comprehensive sales network covering 21 provinces/municipalities and we sell direct to farm customers and via merchants. Our Shanghai office operates as the headquarter of AB Agri China, but ABNA continues to be our business brand in China.

ABF's investment in the BoTian sugar beet joint venture in North East China, has provided us with the opportunity to develop a new market and income stream, based around molassed sugar beet feed for the dairy sector.

Our customers are at the heart of everything we do.  With our world class know-how, AB Agri is well placed to provide the latest nutritional and technological services that offer farmers value-added, sustainable solutions which respond to local needs and meet the requirements of primary processors, food manufacturers and retailers.
